  14. <p>     DIED. RAYMOND BURR, 76, actor; at his ranch near Healdsburg
  15. in Northern California. As television's Perry Mason, Burr had
  16. a towering bulk and thundering baritone that terrified malefactors,
  17. who routinely confessed all in the face of his withering accusations.
  18. The Canadian-born Burr started his career playing film heavies,
  19. including the murderous husband spied upon by James Stewart
  20. in Rear Window. But his claim to fame rested on the Mason series,
  21. which ran from 1957 to 1966. Burr returned to series TV as the
  22. crotchety, wheelchair-bound crime solver Ironside. But a highly
  23. successful 1985 TV movie, Perry Mason Returns, led to 25 more.
